This project was very exciting; it was to create a whole new layout for an existing home which had utilised ex garage space under the house. My brief was to create layout plans to make the most of this new space as well as incorporating it with the existing space, a staircase also needs to be included this needs to be done in a way which did not take up to much of the existing floor plan.
The existing layout upstairs comprises of; two small bedrooms, a shower and toilet room, a galley kitchen alongside a moderate living room. The new space has been completely opened up, with the inclusion of
beautiful floor to ceiling bio fold doors which run the entire length of the room. This gives the space a wonderful open feel and creates a much needed light source.
Reconfiguration of house in Looe
The client and I discussed and played about with many different layout options, all trying to incorporate the many ideas the client had. The plans we have decided on can be seen in the model. The downstairs would become an open plan living and dining space, with the staircase fitting neatly to the right of the back wall. This works as it fits in with the existing retaining wall. It will also leave plenty of space to be utilised for storage. The stairs will be positioned where the existing second bedroom is; this provides a nice flow from the existing front door. The existing toilet/shower room and galley kitchen will be knocked together allowing plenty of space for a bath, which will be slightly raised to allow the client to enjoy astounding views whilst they take a lovely soak. The client has the option of having his bathroom has an en suite to his master bedroom, which will now be in the place of the previous living room. The second
bedroom also gains slightly from the previous living room. I have also suggested that this room house a sofa bed so that the space can also double up has an office. This is where unfortunately I have to leave this project, the client now as a visual idea of how his space could look and has he is carrying the work out by himself, he now continues his journey with a clearer vision for his new home. I wish him lots of luck and cannot wait to see the finished project.
I had many ideas of how I wanted my new space to feel as well as numerous changes I wanted to make to my existing space, the trouble I had was because I had so many ideas I was unable to fix any of them down and would daily add something new I wanted and change my view on previous ideas I had had. Working with Nicky and Tim helped me to focus on what were the most important things I wanted from my home, they helped order my chaos.
To actually see the layout plans on the 3d model greatly helped me to visualise how the layouts would work and the best way to utilise the space I have. Thank you both so much.
